The Hills on Governors Island - Stay Late Event
I recently enjoyed the opportunity to visit Governors Island during the Stay Late event held on Friday May 12th 2017. This event gives visitors the unique opportunity to enjoy the island during and after the sunset. The event was actually supposed to be held the week prior, but had to be rescheduled due to stormy weather. Luckily, this evening’s sky would not disappoint.
One of my main goals was to visit The Hills, four man-made hills that debuted on July 19 2016. The Hills add an additional 10 acres of parkland, including over 40,000 new shrubs and almost 900 trees to the island. These engineered formations were built using debris from the old seawall and buildings on the island, and provide never-before-seen vantage points of New York Harbor, Lower Manhattan, and the Statue of Liberty. Two of its’ main features are Slide Hill, standing at over 3 stories tall is the longest slide in all of New York City, and the 70 foot tall Outlook Hill.
Here are some images during my climb up Outlook Hill. Thank you for checking out my first official blog post!
